Lorraine and Jeff MacDonald - Winners of Jester Tester Quiz 2016
Congratulations to this year's winners, Lorraine and Jeff MacDonald (visiting family living on Achilles Road) who correctly answered all the quiz questions. They have won a £25 book voucher generously donated by West End Lane Books.
Many thanks to Simon Inglis, who again created this year's unusual Jester Tester Quiz. As in previous years, the winner is the person who successfully answers all the questions on the quiz sheet or gives the most number of correct answers. In the case of a tie, the final winner is drawn from a sack containing the names of all the successful candidates. This year we had a record number of 26 correct quizzes returned!
Thanks also to Jackie Spreckley and FoFG members who helped sell the quiz during the Jester Festival weekend. Over £300 was raised through sales and this money will go towards maintaining the Green and future FoFG events. Additionally we'd like to thank everyone who took part this year and hope you enjoyed solving the quiz.
A big thanks to West End Lane Books, Alexanders Estate Agents and Malavan Media for their continued support of the Jester Tester Quiz.

New Exercise Equipment and Play Markings on Green
12th June 2015
Thanks to funding from Fields in Trust, Changing Spaces and Camden Active, Friends of Fortune Green is delighted to announce we now have exercise equipment and play markings for the enjoyment of people of all ages.
As you will see there are four new pieces of exercise equipment on the Green: chin-up bars, a press-up beam, balance bars and posts for stretching. To comply with Health & Safety, three of these have black safety matting installed beneath them.
This black safety matting is designed for the grass to grow through, so in time it will be barely noticeable.
The date of the official opening and a demonstration of ways in which the equipment and markings can be used will be announced shortly. Check the future events page for the date and details.
In the meantime use your imagination and enjoy! your imagination and enjoy!

Fortune Green shortlisted for Fields in Trust "Love Your Field" Award
From October 2014, members of the public were asked to cast their votes for the Fields in Trust "Love Your Field" Award. In 2013, Fortune Green was honoured to be awarded Fields in Trust status. Fields in Trust protect almost 3000 fields and parks throughout the UK and the vote was open to all of these.
Fortune Green reached the final of the "Love Your Field" vote; one of three shortlisted and FoFG were invited to attend the Fields in Trust dinner and award ceremony at Lords Cricket Ground on 3rd December 2014. FoFG Committee members Janet Pedder (Deputy Chair) and Gerald Oppenheim attended. Unfortunately we were beaten by the vastly bigger Barn Elms Playing Fields, but were awarded a "finalists" plaque which is currently on display on the noticeboard at the south end of the Green.
Trees Replaced on Fortune Green - 20th November 2014
On 20th November, Camden replaced all the trees on Fortune Green that had been removed earlier in the year because they were either diseased or damaged by storms and were becoming dangerous.
The removed trees were replaced with Flowering Cherry and Lime trees and a Liquid Amber tree which was funded by WHAT and planted in memory and honour of Don Hill, a founder member.

FoFG's First Love our Green Sunday (LOGS)
Sunday 23 February 2014 was the first of several
Love Our Green Sundays (LOGS) FoFG have planned
throughout the year. Despite a windy day, the GREEN TEAM met on Fortune Green for the Big New Year Cut Down. Those not involved with the cutting down of last years's growth were busy litter picking and tidying up the Green for everyone's enjoyment. Afterwards we were all rewarded with a cup of hot tea or coffee and some delicious cupcakes and meringues baked by Committee Member, Eugene Regis.
LOGS are the perfect opportunity to get involved with the planting, pruning, weeding and general tidying up of the Green. It's an enjoyable way of getting out in the fresh air and meeting your neighbours. There's plenty to do for all ages so bring the whole family. Come, join the GREEN TEAM and take care of our Green! Our next LOGS is on Sunday, 23 March. For more information see our Future Events page.
NEWS FLASH! - Works on the Green:
We are sure that many of you have already seen that there is a lot of digging on the Green. It looks horrendous and we are pretty upset BUT the reason is that Camden's sub contractors are laying a new cable for the lights, which have been fusing on a regular basis.
The Green is particularly sensitive at the moment as the ground is so wet.
We are in contact with the Parks department to ensure that soil is reinstated and the mess cleared up. There is already a plan to reseed the Green in late winter and to improve and stabilise the entrances to the dog-free area, so hopefully by summer all the damage will be rectified.

Children have a field day in Fortune Green to celebrate grass growing for first time since World War Two
Leaping through hoops may not be a death-defying stunt but for the brave kids who took part in a field day in Fortune Green, it certainly took some nerve. Children from Fortune Green and West Hampstead took part in traditional sports day games, including an egg and spoon race, football dribbling, sack races and a three-legged race, to celebrate the renovation of an area within the Green where grass has been unable to grow since World War Two, 65 years ago. The remains of an air raid shelter prevented turf from growing properly but as part of a three-year improvement programme for Fortune Green, the shelter was excavated, with 40 tonnes of concrete rubble removed.
The event, held during Love Parks Week, was also held in celebration of Fortune Green becoming a Fields in Trust (FiT) protected field last year. As part of the improvement works, the Friends of Fortune Green have created a landscaped corner of Fortune Green for children to use, replaced two noticeboards and have marked out a running trail around the Green. Chair of the Friends of Fortune Green, Mark Stonebanks, said: “Thanks to the improvements, there is much greater use of the Green. It is really popular with all sections of the community, but particularly children.”
